Flying Experience Requirements for PPL Licence

    Applicant shall produce satisfactory evidence of having complete a total of at least 40 hours as pilot of a flying machine.

  • The total of 40 hours shall include not less than 15 hours as pilot in charge and a minimum of 12 hours adequate flying training under an authorized instructor in a flying machine fitted with dual control.


  • Of the 15 hours as pilot in charge, not less than 3 hours must have been carried out on cross country flights within the six months immediately preceding the date of application for the licence.


  • The 3 hours cross country flying must include one flight during which the applicant made two intermediate stops, one of which must have been at least 50 nautical miles from the aerodrome at which the flight began and ended.


  • The whole of the above flying experience must have been carried out on flying machines within the class and group of which a rating is required.


  • In the case of an applicant who has satisfactorily completed an approved course of flying training, the total requirement of 40 hours flying experience may be reduced to 30 hours.


    Night Ratings

  • An applicant for a night rating must produce satisfactory evidence of having completed, a total of 50 hours as pilot of a flying machine which shall include at least 25 hours as pilot in charge, at least 5 hours instruction in instrument flying, of which not more than 2 ˝ hours may be tuition in instrument flying on an approved device such as a full flight simulator, At least 5 hours night flying , including not less than five flights by night, as pilot in charge which must have been carried out within the six months immediately preceding the date of application for the rating. The approved instructor must certify that this requirement has been fulfilled.


  • The night rating is valid only when the holder has carried out five take-offs and landings by night in the preceding six months.


  • The 3 hours cross country flying must include one flight during which the applicant made two intermediate stops, one of which must have been at least 50 nautical miles from the aerodrome at which the flight began and ended.


  • The whole of the above flying experience must have been carried out on flying machines within the class and group of which a rating is required.


  • In the case of an applicant who has satisfactorily completed an approved course of flying training, the total requirement of 40 hours flying experience may be reduced to 30 hours.




Flying Experience Requirements for CPL Licence

    The applicant for a Commercial Pilot’s Licence to fly aero-planes shall produce satisfactory evidence of having completed a total of at least 200 hours as pilot of an aero-plane , which shall include:-

  • Adequate flying training under an authorized instructor on a dual controlled aero-plane, of which not less than 10 hours must have been instruction in instrument flying.

  • Not less than 100 hours as pilot in charge, which must include:-

    at least 20 hours cross country or over seas flying , of which one flight must have been not less than 300 nautical miles during which the flying machine has landed and come to rest at two intermediate place;


    at least 10 hours night flying, during which the applicant must have carried out 10 take- offs and 10 landings without assistance from any other person on board the aero-plane, Provided that not more than five hours of this requirement may have been carried out under instruction in a dual controlled aero-plane;


    at least 10 hours flying which has been carried out during the six months immediately preceding the date of application for the licence.


  • The remainder of the 200 hours ( if any ) may be carried out as pilot-in – charge and or as second pilot, but:-

    flying experience as pilot under instruction may be counted in full;


    flying experience as second pilot may be counted to the extent that one half of such flying up to a maximum of 50 hours, may be counted if it was carried out in flying machines required under the Myanmar Aircraft Rules to carry more than one pilot.


    Type Rating

  • To retain a type in Group 1 of the aircraft rating of the licence, the 6 hours flying during preceding six months must be as pilot-in-charge, In addition, one flight as pilot-in-charge, including the landing and take-off, must be carried out on each type (excepting types on the simple aircraft list) within the twelve months immediately preceding the date of application for renewal.


  • When the licence contains Group 2 only, the 6 hours flying during preceding six months may be as second pilot, and take-offs and landings made under supervision may be counted.


  • For the purpose of the requirements specified in paragraph 2.1 time actually spent by a co-pilot in flying the aero-plane may be accepted in lieu of pilot-in –charge time. Co-pilots who wish to retain Group 1 types in their licence should submit evidence, certified by the captain, showing that they have fulfilled the conditions of renewal.


  • In cases where a pilot has had experience in a "simple type" of aero-plane, this type may be retained in Group 1 of the aircraft rating irrespective of the amount of recent flying done in the type.




Flying Experience Requirements for ATPL Licence

    An applicant for an Airline Transport Pilot’s Licence must produce evidence of having completed satisfactorily a total of at least 1200 hours as pilot of an aero-plane which must include:-

  • not less than 250 hours as pilot-in-charge, of which:-

    at least 200 hours, to include 25 hours flight by night, must be cross country or oversea flying;
    (Note. 100 hours cross-country or oversea flying to include 25 hours flight by night, in additional to 200 hours as second pilot, will be accepted in lieu of the above- paragraph.)


    at least 10 hours, must be obtained within the six months immediately preceding the date of application for the licence. In cases where Group 1 ratings are not to be included in the licence, second pilot time will be accepted for this requirement.


  • a total of 100 hours flight by night.

  • at least 75 hours solely by reference to instruments, of which not more than 25 hours may by done in an approved device such as a full flight simulator;

  • a reasonable amount of flying in the type to which the application relates;

  • the remainder of the 1200 hours (if any) may be as pilot-in- charge and/ or second pilot. Flying experience as pilot under instruction will be counted in full. Half the total flying experience as second pilot may be accepted if it has been accumulated in aero-planes required by the Myanmar Aircraft Rules to carry more than one pilot or in military aero-planes which are normally flown with more than one pilot.

    Time of Pilot-in-Charge Under Supervision

  • A maximum of 100 hours of the requirement of 250 hours pilot-in-charge time specified in the paragraph 1.1 may be obtained whilst acting as co pilot, performing, under the supervision of the pilot-in- charge , the duties and functions of a pilot-in-charge. For this purpose 2 hours as pilot-in-charge under supervision will count as 1 hour pilot-in- charge time (see paragraph-3)

    Claiming Time Under Supervision

  • Time as pilot-in-charge under supervision should be entered in the pilot’s log book in the pilot-in-charge column and marked P.1(S). Each entry must be signed by the pilot supervising the flight. Applicants who wish to claim pilot-in-charge under supervision experience toward the requirement for the grant of a licence should submit their flying log books together with an extract showing the flights concerned. The extract must be certified by the applicant’s chief pilot, or flight or line captain.

    Period for Completion of flying Experience

  • To qualify for the grant of a licence, the experience referred to in paragraph (1) above must be completed by the end of the period allowed to the applicant for the completion of the technical examinations.

    Type Ratings

  • To retain a type in Group 1 of the aircraft rating of the licence, the 6 hours during six months must be as pilot-in-charge . In addition, one flight as pilot-in-charge, including the landing and take-off, must be done in each type ( excepting types on the simple aircraft list), within the twelve months immediately preceding the date of application for renewal.

  • When the licence contains ratings only in Group 2, the 6 hours during six months may be as second pilot and take-offs and landings made under supervision may be counted.

  • For the purpose of the requirements specified in sub-para 5.1, time actually spent by a co pilot in flying the aircraft may be accepted in lieu of pilot-in-charge time. Co pilots who wish to retain Group 1 ratings in their licences should submit evidence, certified by the aircraft captain, showing that they have fulfilled the conditions.

  • In cases where a pilot has had experience in a “simple type “ of aero-plane, the type may be retained in Group 1 of the aircraft irrespective of the amount of recent flying done in the type.

  • Applicants for renewal of a licence or type rating who are unable to submit satisfactory evidence for the above recent experience requirements may be required to undergo all or any part of the practical flying tests and technical examinations specified for the grant or extension of a licence as may be appropriate.

    Extension of Licence (Aeroplanes)

  • An applicant who applies for a licence to be extended by the inclusion of an additional type rating will be required to pass the examination in Airframes and Engines ( specific Type ), and Performance if applicable, and to submit evidence that he has completed the flying test specified. This examination must be passed and the flying test completed within the six months immediately preceding the date of application for extension of the licence.




Flying Experience Requirements for Instrument Rating

    An applicant for an instrument rating must product satisfactory evidence that he has carried out:-

  • as pilot in charge of a flying machine, not less than 150 hours flying, including 50 hours cross-country flying;


  • as pilot of a flying machine, not less than 40 hours flying solely by reference to instruments, provided that a maximum of 20 hours of this requirement may be carried out in an approved full flight simulator.


  • In the case of an applicant who has satisfactorily completed an approved course of instrument flying training , the requirement of 40 hours for instrument flying specified in sub-para 1.2 may be reduced to 30 hours , provide that a maximum of 10 hours of this requirement may be carried out in an approved full flight simulator.
